Tokyo in 4 days: a day-by-day itinerary for a first visit

4 days · 23 places · Nights near Shimbashi 新橋

This plan keeps one hotel near Shimbashi for all three nights and gives each day one side of the city, so no ride between stops runs much past half an hour. Day 1 works through Tsukiji, Shiba and Roppongi and ends the evening at Ameya-Yokocho in Ueno, day 2 crosses Harajuku, Shinjuku and Shibuya, day 3 runs from Tokyo Skytree and Asakusa through Akihabara to Ueno, and day 4 spends the morning on Odaiba and the afternoon at the Imperial Palace before Haneda. Day 2 is the full one, with eight stops from an early start at Meiji Jingū to an evening in Golden Gai.

Calculated by Michiplan for a trip starting Wed, Dec 2, 2026, with days from 06:00. 22 of 26 rides are estimated from how often the line runs; the rest come from published timetables. Check the times before you go.

        Good to know

        • On arrival morning the plan leaves your bags at the hotel near Shimbashi before the first stop, and on the last afternoon you go back for them on the way to Haneda, so you never carry luggage between sights.
        • Shimbashi suits this route: it is a stop on the Yurikamome line to Odaiba, and Toei Asakusa line trains from there run on towards Haneda, some of them without a change.
        • teamLab Planets is walked barefoot, partly through shallow water, so wear trousers that roll up above the knee; its tickets are sold for a set date and time.
        • In early December it is dark before five, so Shibuya Sky at 17:21 gives you the city lit up rather than a daylight view.
